Tested on the undead burg crossbow hollow, the r2 at range does 763 while up close only does 444, where a standard two handed r1 does 625. You're probably mixing it up with the dragon greataxe. The big downside to this weapon is the stat requirements. The weapon needs 50 strength and weighs 24 units compared to the zweihander's 10. Because again, RAW upgrades can't get around the fact you still need 31 STR minimum to use the demon greataxe in the first place. Even with say, just 34 STR instead of the minimum 31. I threw my spare souls and materials into a fire to check. When two-handing... That would eliminate the dragon greatsword and the demon greataxe. The clubs are a little slow for my taste, but I definitely want to try the other greatswords for sure.

A +15 Greataxe ends up being the same damage and scaling as the BK GA, while a +4 crystal Greataxe Comes out ahead. All of this the BKGA takes 14 more stat points between dex and strength. Dont forget, the Greataxe is the strongest weapon for elemental ascension.
